Wheat Theft Scandal: PTI Karachi General Secretary Arslan Khalid Slams Sindh Government Over Billions in Losses

KARACHI (HRNW): Arslan Khalid, the General Secretary of PTI Karachi, visited the government wheat warehouses in Malir today alongside other party leaders to address the vanishing of billions of rupees’ worth of wheat. Expressing grave concern, Khalid highlighted that over 900,000 bags of wheat—valued at approximately Rs. 13 billion—have disappeared from Karachi’s warehouses due to what he termed the “complete incompetence and corruption” of the Sindh government.

During the visit, Khalid pointed out that this follows a previous scandal involving Rs. 17 billion worth of missing wheat. He asserted that the corrupt system in Sindh, entrenched for over 18 years, allows officials to embezzle taxpayer-funded resources while the general public suffers from hunger and inflation.

Key Allegations and Demands:

  • Massive Financial Loss: Arslan Khalid claimed that every year, up to Rs. 200 billion worth of wheat is lost to embezzlement across Sindh. He noted that over Rs. 100 billion worth of wheat has either been stolen or allowed to rot in warehouses statewide.

  • Systemic Corruption: He accused the provincial government of reappointing corrupt officers to facilitate a “organized conspiracy” to devour public resources. He also mentioned that workers at the Malir warehouses are being deprived of their salaries while top officials loot billions.

  • Demand for Accountability: PTI has demanded a transparent investigation into the disappearance of the 900,000 bags from Karachi. Khalid called for the immediate arrest of the involved officers and the recovery of stolen funds from their personal assets.

  • Public Rights: Khalid emphasized that this is not just theft but a “robbery of public rights.” He vowed that PTI would continue to stand with the people against the misappropriation of tax money.

The PTI Karachi leadership warned the Sindh government to accept responsibility for this mega-scandal and exposed the “protectors of corruption” who have left the public vulnerable to starvation while rulers engage in plunder.
