Airfares Likely to Rise by Up to 30% as Jet Fuel Prices Surge

Lahore (HRNW)- The ongoing Gulf war has triggered a sharp rise in global aircraft fuel prices, prompting more than a dozen airlines operating in Pakistan to prepare for significant fare increases.

According to industry sources, the price of jet fuel has surged from Rs188.93 per liter to Rs342.32 per liter, leading airlines to consider increasing fares by 20 to 30 percent on both domestic and international routes.

Sources in Pakistan State Oil (PSO) said that after the recent Rs55 per liter increase in petroleum product prices, the cost of jet fuel used by aircraft has risen by Rs153.39 per liter, forcing domestic and foreign airlines to finalize plans for fare adjustments.

In the next one to two days, airlines are expected to officially raise ticket prices, with an estimated 20 percent increase on domestic routes and up to 30 percent on international routes.

According to sources, airfares for major international destinations including Europe, the United States, Canada, and Gulf countries could see significant hikes. Ticket prices from Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad to London may rise by up to Rs100,000, while fares to Paris, Istanbul, New York, and Toronto could increase between Rs80,000 and Rs150,000.

The expected increase in fares may come as a major setback for overseas Pakistanis planning to travel home for Eid, as the rising cost of air travel will place an additional financial burden on passengers.
