Washington (HRNW) — U.S. President Donald Trump has increased global tariffs from 10% to 15% following a recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.
In a statement, President Trump said,
“As President of the United States, I am raising the global tariffs on countries around the world from 10% to 15%.”
He added that several countries included in the tariffs have exploited the U.S. for decades, and his administration will legally determine new and permissible tariffs in the coming months.
It is worth noting that on Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court declared Trump’s additional tariffs on foreign countries illegal. The Court stated that the law under which Trump imposed these tariffs was designed for national emergencies and did not authorize additional tariffs.
Responding to the Court’s decision, President Trump asserted that
“I can do what I want; the countries’ happiness won’t last long.”
After the ruling, Trump immediately imposed a 10% tariff on all countries before announcing the increase to 15%.
