Lahore (HRNW) – Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Nazir Ahmed has announced a series of measures aimed at combating fraud and introducing reforms in Pakistan’s real estate sector, stating that accountability efforts will focus on practical actions rather than symbolic agreements.
Addressing a ceremony in Lahore, the NAB Chairman said the business community deserves greater recognition and support for its contribution to the national economy. He noted that NAB had received 20 cases from chambers of commerce and business forums, and according to him, 19 of those cases have been resolved.
Discussing land-related issues, Nazir Ahmed claimed that large tracts of government land associated with Lahore’s Ring Road project had previously been transferred to private individuals before being reacquired. He expressed optimism about the economic potential of development projects in Punjab.
The NAB Chairman announced that individuals found guilty of defrauding the public would face stricter public accountability measures, including the publication of their photographs in newspaper advertisements. He said the objective is to discourage fraudulent activities and enhance transparency.
He also unveiled plans for significant reforms in the real estate sector. According to the proposed framework, property transactions would be conducted through documented channels, with measures aimed at reducing cash-based dealings and improving record-keeping.
Nazir Ahmed stated that every plot would be assigned a unique barcode number to help prevent forgery and manipulation of property records. He added that efforts are underway to establish a streamlined system where approvals and regulatory processes can be completed through a single platform.
The NAB Chairman further said that accountability authorities have made substantial recoveries in recent years and emphasized the institution’s commitment to tackling corruption and financial misconduct.
He concluded by reaffirming NAB’s determination to pursue legal action against individuals involved in fraud and illegal practices, particularly within the real estate sector.
