Chaos in Sindh Assembly as Member Accuses Colleagues of Death Threats; Speaker Summons Police to the House

Karachi (HRNW) — A heated scene unfolded in the Sindh Assembly when member Rana Shaukat accused his fellow legislators of issuing death threats during the assembly session. The Speaker of the Sindh Assembly immediately called the police into the House.

Rana Shaukat alleged that Shariq Jamal and Iqbal Mehsud had threatened him, claiming they were affiliated with the Khalid Maqbool group. He declared that as a sitting member, he would either register an FIR by calling the relevant police station or resign from the assembly if action was not taken.

Provincial Interior Minister Zia ul Hassan Lanjar stated that such matters were inappropriate for discussion within the assembly, and emphasized that the Speaker, being the custodian of the House, had the authority to summon the SHO and issue rulings. He assured that the government is responsible for the safety of all members, and any violations would be dealt with according to law.

The Speaker urged Opposition Leader Ali Khursheedi to resolve the matter before the session’s end, warning that membership could be suspended if the issue persisted. He also directed that statements from the SSP and SHO be officially recorded.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon remarked that party groupings were separate matters, but failing to ensure a member’s protection after receiving threats could lead to serious consequences.

Opposition Leader Ali Khursheedi requested one hour to settle the issue while allowing routine proceedings to continue.
