Karachi (HRNW)- The CEO of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a new circular outlining strict measures to counter the impact of regional conflicts and soaring fuel prices.
Strategic Measures to Reduce Costs
Due to the escalating war situation in the Middle East and the staggering increase in aviation fuel prices, the national carrier has implemented the following:
-
War Risk Charges: A decision has been made to impose “War Risk Charges” on cargo shipments across PIA flights.
-
Fuel Conservation on Runways: PIA aircraft are now instructed to use only one engine while taxiing to the runway.
-
Optimized Meal Loading: For domestic flights and Saudi Arabia flight operations, meals will be loaded strictly according to the number of passengers. The loading of extra food is now banned to reduce weight.
-
Weight Reduction: The CEO’s circular notes that reducing unnecessary weight (like extra food) will help the aircraft carry additional fuel more efficiently.
-
Emergency Power Limits: Electric generators are to be used only in emergency situations.
Implementation
New directives have been formally issued to the General Managers of all PIA departments to ensure immediate compliance with these austerity measures.
