ISLAMABAD (HRNW): Pakistan’s air defense systems were high alert today after two unidentified drones were detected and successfully neutralized in the federal capital’s airspace. The unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were intercepted near Faizabad, the strategic junction between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Following the detection, authorities took immediate precautionary measures, including the temporary closure of Islamabad’s airspace. Civil aviation operations were suspended briefly as a security protocol but have since been restored after the military confirmed the area was secure.
According to security sources, the drones entered the restricted “funnel area” of the capital, prompting air defense units to utilize both technical jamming and kinetic countermeasures to bring down the crafts. Preliminary assessments describe the downed UAVs as “rudimentary” in nature, and experts are currently analyzing the wreckage to determine their origin. While no loss of life has been reported, the falling debris caused minor localized property damage. In the aftermath, surveillance around the capital and the nearby PAF Base Nur Khan has been intensified, and Section 144 remains strictly enforced regarding the unauthorized flight of private drones. This successful interception follows a string of regional tensions and a heightened security posture across Pakistan.
