Islamabad, Pakistan (HRNW)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared that no institution burdening the national treasury will be spared, emphasizing that the privatization of loss-making public entities remains one of the government’s top priorities.
During a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, key decisions were made regarding reforms and privatization of state-owned enterprises. The government resolved that following the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the process would now move forward for the electric power distribution companies (DISCOs) as well.
Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister described PIA’s privatization as the “first drop of rain”, signaling the beginning of a broader effort to reform and privatize all unprofitable institutions. He stated that the government’s objective is to reduce the burden on the national exchequer and to operate institutions on professional and sustainable grounds.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed concerned authorities to ensure that the privatization process is transparent, swift, and efficient, stressing that these reforms aim to generate positive economic impact and improve public service delivery.
