Karachi (HRNW) – The Sindh High Court has granted bail to Assistant Excise Officer Javed Rashid, who is facing charges in a narcotics case involving the alleged recovery of more than four maunds of hashish (charas) and 20 kilograms of crystal meth (Ice).
The Court directed the accused to furnish bail bonds of Rs. 50,000 and ordered his release from jail upon submission of the required surety.
During the hearing, the SSP Investigation appeared before the Court in compliance with judicial directions. The Court expressed concern over apparent discrepancies in the investigation and prosecution record.
The bench observed that different vehicle registration numbers were mentioned in the FIR and the charge sheet, while the actual owner of the vehicle had not been nominated in the case. The Court also noted that although certain police officials had reportedly been suspended, no departmental proceedings had been initiated against them.
Counsel for the accused, Aslam Bhutta Advocate, argued that the case had been registered with mala fide intent and that the Assistant Excise Officer had been implicated to shield the actual suspects. The defense further submitted that Javed Rashid has remained in custody since December 2025 and has maintained an unblemished service record throughout his career.
After considering the available record and arguments presented by both sides, the Sindh High Court granted bail. The Court’s order does not determine the guilt or innocence of the accused, and the case will continue before the trial court, where evidence will be examined and a final verdict will be issued in accordance with the law.
From a human rights perspective, every accused person is entitled to a fair trial, due process, and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a competent court.
