Sindh High Court Hears Appeal of Uncle Convicted for Raping Niece

Karachi (HRNW) — The Sindh High Court on Thursday heard the appeal of convict Naseeb Gul, who was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs. 100,000 for sexually assaulting his niece. The hearing took an unusual turn when the defense lawyer summoned the victim’s mother to court without prior permission.

Expressing strong displeasure, Justice Iqbal Kalhoro questioned the defense counsel, saying:

“What do you expect to achieve by calling the victim’s mother to court? This is not a murder case that can end with the family’s pardon.”

The defense lawyer argued that the mother wanted to say something before the court.
However, Justice Kalhoro remarked:

“She did not come on her own — you have brought her here after preparing her. These women do not know the law, but you as a lawyer should not misuse them in this way.”

The judge further observed:

“An uncle’s relationship is sacred and affectionate; anyone who betrays that trust must be punished. Such tactics during appeals will not benefit the accused.”

According to case records, the trial court had convicted Naseeb Gul after finding sufficient evidence that he sexually assaulted his niece.
The FIR was registered in 2021 at the New Karachi Industrial Area Police Station.

The complaint stated that after her divorce, the victim’s mother worked as a polio worker and was often away from home. During this time, the accused, her brother, sexually assaulted the girl and threatened her with death to keep her silent.

Even after the mother’s second marriage, the accused continued his criminal behavior, but when the victim resisted, a case was registered and he was arrested.
