Government Extends Shop Timings to 10 PM, Austerity Measures Prolonged Until June 30

Islamabad (HRNW)- The federal government has decided to increase the operating hours of shops as part of its ongoing fuel conservation and austerity measures.

A meeting of the Committee on Monitoring and Implementation of Fuel Conservation and Additional Austerity Measures was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar.

The committee reviewed requests submitted by various ministries and divisions seeking exemptions from austerity measures and finalized recommendations regarding specific exemptions.

For public convenience, the committee decided that consular verification services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its liaison offices in Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar, Gujrat and Lahore will continue to operate on Fridays.

The committee also recommended extending the implementation period of additional austerity measures, which were previously scheduled to expire on June 13, 2026, until June 30, 2026.

During the meeting, it was further decided that stand-alone grocery and kirana stores across the country will now be allowed to remain open until 10:00 PM on all days of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Ministers for Petroleum, Climate Change, and IT & Telecom, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Finance, the Special Assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister, secretaries of key ministries, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant departments.
