Punjab Government Introduces QR Code System for Electricity Subsidy Registration

Lahore (HRNW)- The government has devised a new method of subsidy for the actual entitled consumers in electricity bills, in which relief can be obtained through the QR code on the bill.

In this regard, the Punjab government has made the process of obtaining subsidy completely digital by introducing ‘QR code’ on the bills for consumers consuming up to 200 units of electricity.

The Punjab government has started printing QR codes on electricity bills to make the ‘Cross Subsidy Program 2026’ launched at the federal level effective. The main objective of this initiative is to bring transparency in the subsidy system so that relief reaches only the actual entitled and low-income families instead of those who take wrongful benefits.

Power Division officials have said in a statement that this new campaign will discourage the trend of taking subsidy through multiple meters in the same house.

This facility is mainly for Benazir Income Support Program beneficiaries, daily wage earners and those who consume less than 200 units of electricity per month.

Making the registration process easier, the government has directed consumers to scan the QR code on their bill and go to the official portal.

After entering the 14-digit reference number and identity card on this portal, the verification process can be completed instantly through a one-time password (OTP).

To assist citizens who do not have smartphone facilities or are technology-challenged, special digital desks and help camps have been set up at the district administration and union council levels.

Consumers have been advised to ensure that the name on the bill and the identity card details match so that there is no obstacle in obtaining relief.

In addition, users will also have the facility to register by entering their information on the official website of the Direct Government Cross-Subsidy Program Registration if they are unable to scan the code.
