“Our Justice System Has Become a Putrid Corpse,” Declares Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman

LAHORE (HRNW): The Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, has launched a scathing critique of the country’s judicial and legal framework, stating that Pakistan’s system of justice has utterly collapsed. Addressing representatives of the legal and business communities, he urged lawyers to lead the mission for the restoration of the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary.

Key Highlights from the Address at Mansoorah

Speaking to officials from the Lahore High Court Bar Association, Lahore Bar, Pakistan Tax Bar Association, and the Pakistan International Business Forum, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman highlighted the following:

  • State of the Justice System: “Our justice system has become a putrid corpse. In this country, the wealthy can purchase justice, while the poor spend their entire lives being pushed from pillar to post in courts.”

  • Constitutional Distortion: He argued that self-serving amendments have disfigured the Constitution, destroying not just the judiciary but the entire administrative fabric of the country.

  • Economic Injustice: The JI chief pointed out a stark disparity in the tax system, where poor farmers, laborers, and the salaried class bear the entire burden, while capitalists and feudal lords remain untouched by accountability.

  • Institutional Inertia: He criticized the FBR, noting that over 25,000 employees sit idle in offices while millions are extracted daily from students and laborers through the petroleum levy.

The “Badal Do Nizam” (Change the System) Movement

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman called upon the legal fraternity to take action:

  1. Lawyers’ Role: He urged lawyers to rise for the mission of constitutional restoration and the rule of law.

  2. Defeating the Mafias: He stated that power has been seized by mafias who have abolished accountability, and no government can face these challenges without public support.

  3. Movement Objective: The core points of JI’s “Badal Do Nizam” movement are the independence of the judiciary and the supremacy of the Constitution.

Conclusion

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman lamented that those who toy with the Constitution are often rewarded with high offices instead of being held accountable. He concluded that without the genuine supremacy of law and the Constitution, Pakistan cannot move forward on the path of progress.
