Karachi (HRNW) – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has called for the creation of new provinces on administrative grounds across Pakistan, particularly in Sindh, and announced that it will take its campaign from the legislative assemblies to the streets.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Bahadurabad, Karachi, Federal Minister for Health and senior MQM-P leader Syed Mustafa Kamal said the existing administrative system has failed and that establishing new provinces has become essential for effective governance.
Kamal claimed that of the Rs. 22 trillion allocated to the Sindh government over the past 18 years, Karachi received only Rs. 680 billion, despite contributing the majority of the province’s revenue. He further argued that if the pre-2010 fiscal formula had remained in place, Karachi would have received approximately Rs. 2 trillion, which, according to him, could have significantly improved infrastructure, healthcare, education, industrial growth, and employment opportunities.
He also alleged that following the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the Sindh government centralized financial resources and administrative powers while failing to adequately address the needs of Karachi and other urban areas in the province.
Mustafa Kamal stated that MQM-P had introduced a constitutional amendment in Parliament regarding administrative reforms, but claimed it was blocked due to the numerical majority of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He announced that, after exhausting parliamentary and constitutional avenues, the party would now continue its campaign through public mobilization.
As part of this campaign, MQM-P announced a protest rally in Shah Faisal Town, Karachi, on Sunday, criticizing what it described as 18 years of misgovernance and corruption under the PPP-led Sindh government.
During the press conference, Kamal also condemned the reported police action against women protesting in Khairpur for the recovery of missing children, calling for the immediate release of those detained and the safe recovery of the missing children.
He concluded by saying that MQM-P prioritizes public rights, constitutional justice, and national stability over holding government offices, and pledged to continue pursuing its demands through democratic and constitutional means.
