QUETTA (HRNW) – At least 23 people have been martyred and 53 others injured in a massive explosion near the Chaman Phatak railway track. Police and rescue sources have officially confirmed the casualties.
According to initial reports, the blast occurred just as a train was preparing to pass through the area. The intensity of the explosion was so severe that it heavily damaged several vehicles parked near the railway track and impacted nearby structures.
Immediately following the incident, rescue teams and emergency workers rushed to the scene to shift the injured to nearby hospitals. Sources at the Civil Hospital Quetta stated that 23 bodies have been brought to the facility so far, while a large number of women and children are among the injured. Hospital administrations have declared that several of the injured remain in critical condition, raising fears of a rise in the death toll.
Eyewitnesses reported that a large number of passengers on board were heading to their hometowns to celebrate Eid holidays when the sudden, loud explosion triggered widespread panic and chaos across the area.
Security forces cordoned off the entire area shortly after the blast to launch a search operation and collect forensic evidence. The district administration has declared a state of emergency across all hospitals in Quetta, calling doctors and medical staff to immediate duty. Investigations are currently underway to determine the nature and cause of the blast.
