Middle East Uncertainty: Airspace of Iraq and Syria Completely Closed; Flight Operations in Iran Heavily Disrupted

Baghdad/Tehran (HRNW): Escalating geopolitical tensions and mounting uncertainty across the Middle East have forced multiple nations to shut down their airspaces, prompting global aviation authorities to issue severe safety warnings. Following these strict international warnings, Syria has completely banned all overflying aircraft from utilizing its airspace, while flight operations at both Damascus and Baghdad airports have been entirely suspended since 10:00 PM.

In a parallel development, Iraq has issued an official Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) completely shutting down its airspace for the next 72 hours. Under this directive, all arrivals, departures, and overflying commercial transits within Iraqi territory have been suspended. This NOTAM remains strictly in effect for 72 hours starting from Sunday, June 7. Concurrently, Iran has partially suspended its flight operations and closed its western airspace for an indefinite period. This sudden closure has severely impacted aviation operations across multiple Iranian cities, including the primary hub at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport.
