Government Confirms Safety of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Amid Injury Reports

TEHRAN: (HRNW) Following widespread speculation regarding the health of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, the Iranian government has officially confirmed that he is “safe and in good health.” The clarification came from Yousef Pezeshkian, son of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and a senior government adviser, who addressed the rumors through a social media statement.

Yousef Pezeshkian shared that after hearing reports of an injury, he contacted informed sources close to the Supreme Leader who verified his safety. “I inquired with several friends who were in contact with him, and they confirmed that, thank God, he is absolutely safe and sound,” he stated. This announcement aims to dispel international media reports, including a recent claim by The New York Times, suggesting that Mojtaba Khamenei had sustained leg injuries during the initial U.S.-Israeli strikes on February 28—the same bombardment that claimed the life of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

While state television had previously referred to the new leader as a “wounded veteran of the Ramadan War,” it had never clarified the nature of these injuries. Officials now suggest that the Supreme Leader is operating from a secure location due to ongoing security threats. This first official reassurance follows days of public absence that had fueled concerns about a leadership vacuum during the intensifying regional conflict.
