South Asian Nations to Begin Ramadan Fasting Together After Crescent Moon Sighted

Islamabad (HRNW) – South Asian countries including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh will observe the first fast of the holy month of Ramadan on Thursday, February 18, after the crescent moon marking the beginning of the ninth month of the Islamic calendar was sighted, confirming the start of Ramadan 1447 AH.

In Bangladesh, the announcement was officially made by the Bangladesh National Moon Sighting Committee, according to local media reports. In Pakistan, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held its meeting to review moon-sighting testimonies from across the country. Meanwhile, in India, the Ramadan moon was reported sighted in Allahabad, a major city in Uttar Pradesh.

Many countries in the Middle East, as well as several American and European nations, began observing the first fast a day earlier on Wednesday. Muslims worldwide consider Ramadan a sacred month of worship and blessings, observing daily fasting from sunrise to sunset and concluding the month with the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.
