Tehran (HRNW) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqai has accused the United States of being responsible for escalating tensions in the region and undermining ceasefire efforts, claiming that Israel cannot undertake major military or political actions without American support and approval.
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Baqai said that responsibility for the developments of the past 24 hours and the renewed instability in the region rests primarily with the United States. According to him, Israeli actions cannot be viewed separately from American policies due to what he described as close coordination between the two countries.
The Iranian spokesperson stated that recent events have damaged the ceasefire process and contributed to greater regional instability. He maintained that Iran has respected the terms of the ceasefire but alleged that violations by other parties have undermined efforts to maintain peace.
Baqai emphasized that Iran remains prepared to take all necessary measures to safeguard its national security, sovereignty and interests.
He also criticized International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, alleging that the agency’s leadership has adopted a biased and non-technical approach toward Iran’s nuclear program. Baqai argued that the IAEA had failed to condemn actions that Iran considers destabilizing to the region.
Addressing developments in Lebanon, the Iranian spokesperson said that maintaining a ceasefire and ending hostilities there are essential elements of any broader diplomatic settlement. He added that violations of ceasefire agreements directly affect ongoing negotiations and regional peace initiatives.
According to Baqai, Iran remains committed to pursuing both diplomacy and defense preparedness in parallel, adapting its approach according to evolving circumstances. He further claimed that inconsistent US policies and statements have complicated diplomatic efforts and made negotiations more challenging.
The spokesperson also alleged that Israel seeks to prevent diplomatic initiatives that could contribute to long-term stability and peace in the Middle East.
