Powerful 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Mindanao, Tsunami Alerts Issued

Manila (HRNW) – A powerful earthquake struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, prompting tsunami alerts and raising concerns across the region. Initial reports indicate that at least 12 people have lost their lives following the disaster.

According to the Center for Geosciences, the earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, causing strong tremors to be felt across a wide area.

The agency initially estimated the earthquake’s magnitude at 7.3, but later revised it upward to 7.8 after further analysis.

Foreign media reports stated that authorities in the Philippines issued warnings due to the potential tsunami threat, while Japanese authorities also released tsunami advisories and began monitoring coastal areas as a precaution.

Emergency response teams have been deployed to assess damage, assist affected communities and monitor aftershocks. Authorities are continuing rescue and relief operations while evaluating the full impact of the earthquake on infrastructure and local populations.

Officials have urged residents in vulnerable coastal areas to follow safety instructions and remain alert for further updates from disaster management agencies.
