JUI Protests Against Alleged SBCA Corruption; Three-Member Probe Committee Formed

Karachi (HRNW): Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leaders and legal professionals staged a strong protest against the directors and officers of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) over widespread allegations of corruption and bribery.

Bribery Allegations and Official Intervention

Protesters gathered inside the SBCA’s Single Window Facility to record their protest, leveling serious allegations against officials for demanding bribes in exchange for the approval of building plans and maps.

During the demonstration, Assistant Director General (ADG) of Operations, Farhan Qaiser, met with the protestors to hear their grievances. Following the negotiations, the SBCA administration constituted a high-level, three-member committee to thoroughly investigate the pending building plans. The newly formed committee comprises:

  • Ali Ghufran

  • Sami Jamlani

  • Shahzad Qureshi

Strict Review and Policy Enforcement

The authority has decided to execute a comprehensive scrutiny of all building maps currently submitted at the Single Window Facility. However, SBCA officials strictly clarified that under provincial laws, layout plans for residential constructions on amenity plots cannot be legally approved under any circumstances.

Furthermore, it was reported that approvals for certain plots located in North Karachi have been temporarily withheld due to a pending clarification from the Karachi Development Authority (KDA).

Assurance of Transparency

The SBCA management assured the JUI leadership that all pending cases will be decided promptly following a transparent evaluation. The authority expressed its commitment to resolving the highlighted grievances by Wednesday.
