Jamaat-e-Islami Leads “Save Hill Park Walk” Against Encroachment; Moves Sindh High Court

Karachi (HRNW): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) organized a public protest march titled the “Save Hill Park Walk” to challenge alleged land grabbing and encroachment at Hill Park, a major public recreational destination in Karachi. A large number of local residents participated in the rally to express their grievances.

Leadership and Allegations of Land Carving

The walk was led by Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Muhammad Farooq. Addressing the participants, Farooq firmly stated that illegal land occupation on park premises would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He emphasized that the 62-acre public property falls directly under the administrative jurisdiction of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The lawmaker alleged that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for construction on the park’s land was quietly issued last month by KMC’s Director of Land. He further accused the Mayor of Karachi of systematically carving out public park lands to hand them over to private individuals, specifically labeling the current encroachment attempt at Hill Park as illegal “Larkana Cutting.”

Legal Recourse and Administrative Backlash

MPA Muhammad Farooq announced that Jamaat-e-Islami has officially filed a petition in the Sindh High Court to legally challenge the encroachment on Hill Park. Severely criticizing the city’s administration, Farooq termed Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab an “occupier mayor” and asserted that the time has come to completely reclaim public lands from unlawful possession.
