WASHINGTON/MOSCOW (HRNW)– A fresh global debate has emerged over the air-combat superiority of the US F-35 Lightning II and Russia’s Su-57 Felon, as military analysts and aviation experts examine which fifth-generation fighter jet holds the tactical edge.
According to international media reports, both aircraft—designed as advanced stealth platforms—represent the peak of modern air power, yet differ significantly in architecture, technology, and battlefield roles.
The report highlights that the F-35 possesses an exceptionally small radar cross-section of approximately 0.001 square meters, making it extremely difficult to detect. Its AN/APG-81 AESA radar, 360-degree Distributed Aperture System (DAS), and integrated sensor fusion provide unmatched situational awareness, enabling pilots to engage targets beyond visual range with precision.

On the other hand, the Russian Su-57 Felon, while stealth-capable, does not match the same level of radar invisibility or advanced networking seen in the American jet. However, it boasts superior maneuverability, including 3D thrust vectoring, and can exceed Mach 2, allowing it to tackle highly evasive targets effectively.
The report further notes that while the F-35’s top speed is Mach 1.6, its avionics, stealth profile, and sensor systems give it strategic advantages. Analysts say the two jets are comparable in overall power, each excelling in different aspects of air warfare.
