KARACHI (HRNW) – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded effective tax collection from the capitalist class and the immediate abolition of the petroleum levy.
During a press conference held in Karachi, senior MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar presented the party’s farmer- and public-friendly shadow budget. He asserted that the petroleum levy should be abolished immediately, while emphasizing that reducing the tax burden on the salaried middle class is indispensable. Alongside these measures, he stated that immediate relief must also be provided to small farmers and peasants (harees).
Farooq Sattar noted that the purchasing power of the masses in Pakistan has declined to a dangerous level, and economic stagnation has gripped the country. According to him, Pakistan’s economic sovereignty is inherently a matter of national survival, and economic conditions can only be improved by promoting local investment.
He further added that due to the diplomatic efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan has gained significant global attention, which could pave the way for future economic opportunities.
