Federal Budget 2026-27 May Bring Major Tax Relief for Real Estate Sector

Islamabad (HRNW)- The possibility of providing relief to the real estate sector in the upcoming federal budget 2026-27 is being revealed.

According to official sources, a proposal to reduce the transaction tax on the purchase and sale of property for filers is under consideration in the budget. Sources in the Ministry of Finance say that the withholding tax on the purchase of property under section 236K is likely to be reduced from 1.5 percent to 0.25 percent.

Similarly, the withholding tax on the sale of property under section 236C is also being considered from 4.5 percent to 1.5 percent.

According to sources, the FBR has also informed the IMF about the proposed changes in taxes on the real estate sector. However, no relief will be given on the purchase and sale of property for non-filers, and the tax on them is likely to remain at about 10.5 percent.

According to officials, a 29 percent increase in withholding tax was recorded from July to March during the current fiscal year, however, due to heavy taxes, a decrease in capital gains tax collections has also been seen compared to last year.
