Korangi-Shah Faisal Bridge Becomes a “No-Go Area” as Armed Gang Sets Up Roadblock to Rob Dozens

KARACHI (HRNW): The strategic bridge connecting Korangi and Shah Faisal Colony has turned into a hotspot for organized crime. On Saturday night, a large gang of armed dacoits reportedly established a makeshift checkpoint on the bridge, depriving dozens of commuters of their valuables at gunpoint, sparking widespread fear across the city.

Incident Details and Viral Footage

Footage circulating on social media on Saturday night captured the harrowing scene on the Korangi Bridge:

  • Armed Roadblock: A citizen filming the scene claimed that approximately 10 to 12 dacoits armed with Kalashnikovs had blocked the bridge, systematically looting every passing vehicle.

  • Mass Robbery: According to eyewitnesses, a group of 12 to 15 armed men placed obstacles to stop the flow of traffic, resulting in a massive gridlock. They operated in small teams, moving from car to car to snatch cash, mobile phones, and other expensive belongings.

  • Atmosphere of Terror: The video shows long queues of vehicles stuck on the bridge, with commuters left helpless as the criminals operated with total impunity.

A Growing “No-Go Area” for Citizens

Local residents and frequent commuters have expressed outrage over the deteriorating security situation in the area:

  • Systematic Operation: Witnesses noted that the gang appeared highly organized, purposefully blocking traffic to ensure a large number of victims were trapped in a confined space.

  • Lack of Law Enforcement: Victims lamented the absence of police or Rangers patrols during the extended duration of the robbery, allowing the gang to escape easily into the nearby settlements.

Urgent Call for Security

The bridge is a vital artery for thousands of factory workers and residents traveling between Korangi Industrial Area and the rest of the city. The transformation of this public infrastructure into a “No-Go Area” has led to calls for the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh and the Additional IG Karachi to take immediate notice. Citizens are demanding the establishment of a permanent police picket on the bridge to ensure the safety of life and property.
