New York (HRNW)- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has denied the charges against him in a US court, saying he is innocent and that he was kidnapped.
According to reports, Maduro and his wife were brought by helicopter from Brooklyn to Manhattan, where they were transported to the court in an armored vehicle. Maduro was presented in court wearing a prisoner uniform and handcuffed. He also wore headphones to understand the court proceedings in Spanish.
A federal court judge asked Maduro to identify himself, to which he said he was the president of Venezuela. The judge read out the charges against Maduro, including drugs and terrorism, but Maduro denied all the charges, saying, “I am still the president of my country and a decent person. I was kidnapped and I am not guilty of any of these charges.”
Maduro’s wife also insisted on her innocence, saying she was innocent.
The court has set a March 17 hearing date and ordered Maduro and his wife to appear in court again.
