Development Projects Underway; Sindh Government Executing World’s Largest Housing Scheme, Says Sharjeel Memon

Karachi (HRNW): Development projects are rapidly progressing across Karachi, with the reconstruction of Shahrah-e-Bhutto receiving a highly positive response from the public. Bridges and underpasses are being actively constructed across the city, though officials noted that the national motorway network should have ideally originated from Karachi.

Alleviating Traffic Pressure and Infrastructure Expansion

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon highlighted that Karachi experiences the highest traffic density in the country due to the continuous influx of people migrating from all over Pakistan in search of employment opportunities.

To structurally improve freight and goods transport, the government is actively considering a strategic plan to lay a dedicated railway line alongside the Northern Bypass. Sharjeel Memon emphasized that Karachi effectively shoulders the socio-economic burden of providing employment and healthcare facilities for the entire country.

Public Convenience vs. Short-Term Disruption

The Senior Minister acknowledged that ongoing mega-development works on University Road are currently causing commuting difficulties for citizens. However, he maintained that the Sindh government had to make certain tough decisions for long-term public benefit. He added that the completion of Shahrah-e-Bhutto is already yielding massive dividends by saving travel time and facilitating smoother traffic flows for residents.

Mega-Projects in Housing, Energy, and Healthcare

Sharjeel Memon detailed the provincial administration’s large-scale welfare and infrastructure interventions:

  • The World’s Largest Housing Scheme: The Sindh government is progressively completing a massive residential project comprising 2.1 million (21 Lakh) houses, making it the largest rehabilitation and housing initiative globally.

  • Affordable Energy via Thar Coal: A massive investment of $1 billion is being utilized for Thar coal projects to generate affordable and low-cost electricity for the grid.

  • Revolutionizing Healthcare: The healthcare sector in Sindh has witnessed remarkable upgrades, with specialized facilities like the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences and other hospitals offering completely free, high-end medical treatments to patients.

Political Commentary and Electoral Violations

Shifting focus to political affairs, Sharjeel Memon confidently claimed that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will achieve a clean sweep in the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan elections. He strongly criticized federal ministers for their recent regional visits and statements, terming them a blatant violation of the election code of conduct.

Responding to recent controversial remarks made by Captain (Retd) Safdar, the Senior Minister dismissed them lightly, stating that Safdar’s political stature does not warrant a detailed or serious response.
