Karachi Water Crisis Intensifies at the Start of Ramadan Despite Repairs

Karachi (HRNW) — With the onset of Ramadan, the water crisis in Karachi has worsened. Even after repairs to a burst 84-inch main water pipeline near Port Qasim, water supply remains disrupted across multiple areas of the city, leaving residents in severe distress.

According to water authorities, a leak in the 84-inch line near Shanti Nagar, close to Dhabiji and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, managed by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, halted supply to a significant portion of the city. Although repairs were completed within 24 hours, water supply has still not been fully restored.

The situation deteriorated further when a subsequent breakdown occurred at the Dhabiji Pumping Station due to power issues with K-Electric, preventing the delivery of 103.1 million gallons of water to the city.

Residents in areas including Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Sultanabad (Kemari Town), and Saddar Town have been struggling for even a single drop of water, making it difficult to meet household needs, especially on the first day of fasting.

Citizens expressed that the lack of water during the sacred month of Ramadan has added tremendous hardship. Meanwhile, the KW&SC has stated that water supply will gradually normalize once electricity is fully restored.
