18 Killed, 29 Injured as Truck Carrying Returning Afghan Families Overturns

Laghman (HRNW)- A tragic road accident in Afghanistan’s eastern Laghman province has claimed the lives of 18 people and left 29 others injured when a truck carrying Afghan families returning from Pakistan overturned.

According to Abdul Malik Niazi, spokesperson for the governor of Laghman province, the incident occurred while the vehicle was transporting families along the highway between Jalalabad and Kabul.

He confirmed that among the deceased were 10 children, five women, and three men. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Authorities said initial reports suggest that speeding or poor road conditions may have contributed to the accident, although a full investigation is still underway to determine the exact cause.

Road accidents remain a major concern in Afghanistan due to challenging terrain, weak infrastructure, and limited traffic regulation enforcement in many regions.
