Washington (HRNW)- US Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth has said that Iran has a “golden opportunity” to choose a prosperous future, according to remarks shared during a press briefing involving US negotiators.
According to the US Broadcasting Corporation, Hegseth warned that if Iran makes the wrong decision regarding the ceasefire agreement, US forces are fully prepared to resume military operations.
He added that the United States is closely monitoring Iranian military movements, including what he described as the deployment of key military assets and suppression of bomber launch capabilities.
The Defense Secretary further stated that Iran claims control over the Strait of Hormuz, but “does not have a navy capable of doing so,” while the United States maintains strong naval power in the region.
He said the US naval presence and restrictions on Iranian maritime activity would continue as long as deemed necessary, adding that US forces retain full operational readiness to respond at any time.
Hegseth also asserted that the United States maintains control over maritime traffic entering and exiting the Strait of Hormuz.
