Gul Plaza Shopkeepers Set Up Makeshift Market in Qayyumabad to Support Affected Traders

Karachi (HRNW)- Shopkeepers affected from Gul Plaza have set up a temporary market in Karachi, drawing a large number of residents eager to show support ahead of Eid.

The makeshift market has been established in a banquet hall located at the junction of Qayyumabad and Defense. The initiative has been organized by Hamdard Hath, a youth-led NGO working at the city level.

Around 140 Gul Plaza shopkeepers have set up stalls featuring a variety of goods including wall clocks, crockery, home décor items, bed sheets, children’s clothing, and kitchen electronic appliances.

Women and families from different areas of the city have been visiting the market to shop and express solidarity. A woman who traveled from Gulistan-e-Jauhar told media that she came from several kilometers away specifically to support the affected traders during Eid and contribute through her purchases.

Speaking on the occasion, affected shopkeepers said their previous Ramadan business could not be recovered and they no longer have physical shops. Although they have shifted to online sales, they admitted that online business has not generated the same response as the traditional Gul Plaza market. However, they expressed determination and said they have not lost hope.
