Karachi (HRNW) — It has been revealed that the seal on a government plot housing a previously sealed wedding hall in Baldia Town has been broken.
According to sources, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) had sealed Zargul Silver Marquee Banquet, located near the Town Office on Hub River Road, in March 2025 for illegal construction under Section 7/A of the Sindh Building Control Regulations.
Sources said the wedding hall was unlawfully established in 2018 by occupying a government plot. Earlier in 2014, certain Metropolitan Corporation Karachi (MCK) officials had allegedly leased the plot illegally after receiving heavy bribes. The inquiry into this illegal lease has reportedly been pending with the Anti-Corruption Establishment Sindh for the past four years due to alleged monetary influence.
SBCA officials stated that the hall was built without any official approval, and several notices were issued. However, after non-compliance, the premises were sealed in March 2025. It was later discovered that the owners had broken the seal and resumed operations.
Sources further alleged that the SBCA officer responsible for sealing the premises personally removed the seal in exchange for a 1 million rupee bribe but later shifted the blame onto the hall owners.
A local NGO has announced its plan to file a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court and Anti-Corruption Court against the illegal construction of the wedding hall and the unlawful lease of the government plot.
