Constitutional Bench Grants Sindh Government Extension in Municipal Officers’ Reinstatement Case

ISLAMABAD (HRNW): The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court has granted a request from the Sindh government’s counsel for additional time to submit a formal response regarding the non-reinstatement of municipal officers. During the hearing, the court directed the provincial legal team to ensure their reply is filed before the next session and subsequently adjourned the proceedings until March 11, 2026.

According to Advocate Asadullah Billo, the counsel for the petitioners, 47 officers, including the petitioner Manthar, were originally appointed as municipal officers in 2012 but were dismissed in 2016 following allegations of fraudulent recruitment. After the Sindh High Court initially rejected their pleas, the officers moved the Supreme Court, which referred the matter to the Chief Secretary for thorough scrutiny. Following the recommendations of an inquiry committee, 45 of the dismissed officers were reinstated; however, the petitioners, Manthar and Yasin, remain excluded from service despite the committee’s findings.

The bench has sought a detailed explanation from the government regarding the specific reasons for withholding the reinstatement of these two remaining individuals. The case highlights ongoing judicial oversight into provincial administrative decisions and the implementation of inquiry recommendations.
