UNITED STATES (HRNW): British-Pakistani biker Gul Afshan Tariq has officially begun a historic motorcycle expedition from London to Lahore, aiming to become the first Pakistani woman to complete this transcontinental journey on two wheels.
Gul Afshan, a 24-year-old resident of Manchester who lives with her husband and three-year-old daughter, has already commenced her journey through Europe, crossing France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. Due to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, she has altered her original route; instead of traveling through Iran, she will now navigate through Georgia to reach her final destination in Lahore.
Speaking about her mission, Gul Afshan stated that this journey is dedicated to women’s rights. She aims to send a powerful message to women everywhere that they are capable of achieving their most ambitious goals regardless of the challenges.
She further noted that the biking community in Pakistan is growing stronger and hoped her journey would serve as a beacon of inspiration for female riders. Gul Afshan credited her father’s own world travels as the primary inspiration that gave her the courage to undertake this historic feat.
