KARACHI (HRNW): Muneem Zafar Khan, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi, delivered a scathing critique of the Sindh government and the city’s deteriorating infrastructure during a press conference today. Speaking on the 79th anniversary of Pakistan’s inception, he remarked that while the country was founded on a specific ideology, the objectives for which it was created remain unfulfilled.
Muneem Zafar Khan stated that for the past 18 years, the people of Sindh and Karachi have been subjected to “systemic oppression.” He challenged Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s praise for the Mayor’s performance, pointing out the severe water shortages and the rising death toll of children caused by heavy vehicles like dumpers and trailers on city roads.
The JI chief raised serious questions regarding the completion of key development projects, including:
-
Infrastructure & Transport: Delays in the Mass Transit System and the Safe City project.
-
Urban Planning: The alleged deception in the construction of the Karimabad Underpass.
-
Water Crisis: Failure to complete essential water supply projects despite nearly two decades in power.
Highlighting a breakdown in law and order, he noted that over 9,400 street crime incidents have been reported recently, with 15 citizens losing their lives during mobile snatching attempts. He further emphasized the alarming spike in road fatalities involving heavy machinery over the last 70 days.
Muneem Zafar Khan announced that following Eid, Jamaat-e-Islami will launch a movement for a “Mega City Government” and a vote of no confidence to restore the rights of Karachi’s residents. He also congratulated the new Governor of Sindh and shared a positive update regarding the Bano Qabil Program, noting that 20,000 youth are currently receiving IT education under the initiative to empower the city’s future.
