Lahore (HRNW) — With the arrival of the New Year, the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Authority (NCCIA) has issued a safety alert for the public amid growing concerns over online frauds.
According to the authority, suspicious links and fake reward messages are circulating on social media and messaging apps under the guise of New Year greetings.
The public has been advised not to click on unknown links and to avoid sharing WhatsApp verification codes with anyone. The alert urges people to protect their celebrations from cyber criminals and remain vigilant against fraudulent actors.
Cybersecurity experts have warned that fraudsters are sending New Year greeting cards via WhatsApp containing links embedded with fake app files and malware.
These messages prompt users to click on links to view or claim the cards. Experts cautioned that clicking such links could lead to phone hacking, putting personal data, photos, contacts, and bank account information at risk of being accessed by cybercriminals.
