Sindh High Court Upholds Legality Of Korangi Food Street; Dismisses All Petitions Against Town Administration

KARACHI (HRNW)- A two-member constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Nisar Muhammad Pahnwar and Justice Saleem Jessar, has declared the Korangi Town Food Street legal and dismissed all petitions filed against it. The court issued this landmark judgment while hearing CPD No. 2384/2025 and three subsequent petitions filed against the town administration. Representing Korangi Town, Barrister Fahad Farooq and Barrister Jehangir Kalhoro successfully argued that the site was originally established in 2006 and was later recovered from illegal occupation through the dedicated legal efforts of Town Chairman Naeem Sheikh.

During the proceedings, the honorable bench lauded the initiative of the Town Municipal Corporation (TMC) Korangi, remarking that while public lands in Karachi are often illegally converted into plazas, the town administration has established a high-quality facility for public welfare and recreation. The judges highlighted the social impact of the project, noting that 40% of the stalls have been specifically reserved for women, providing them a dignified platform to support their families. The court was informed that the 80-stall facility is managed entirely by the Korangi Town administration, with all revenues deposited directly into the town’s treasury.

Town Chairman Naeem Sheikh provided a written undertaking to the court confirming that the land is the property of TMC Korangi and will remain under its administrative control. Following these assurances and the presentation of facts regarding the project’s transparent management, the court dismissed the remaining petitions, ruling in favor of the town administration. This decision ensures that the modern food street will continue to serve as a hub for community engagement and economic empowerment for the residents of Korangi.
