Sindh Government Hits Back: MQM-P’s “Panic” Over Governor Removal is Proof of Misuse, Says Spokesperson

KARACHI (HRNW): Sukhdev Hemnani, the spokesperson for the Sindh Government, has issued a sharp rebuttal to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) outcry following the removal of Kamran Tessori. In a statement addressing the backlash from senior MQM-P leaders, Hemnani asserted that the party’s “visible panic” confirms the provincial government’s long-standing concerns that the Governor House was being utilized as a political headquarters rather than a constitutional office.

Hemnani emphasized that the appointment and removal of a Governor are the sole constitutional prerogatives of the Federation. “If MQM-P has objections to this decision, they should take them up with the Federal Government,” he remarked, adding that the Sindh government had repeatedly voiced concerns over the previous Governor’s involvement in non-constitutional activities.

In a direct challenge to the MQM-P’s leadership, the spokesperson said:

“If MQM-P is genuinely aggrieved by this decision, they should stop issuing mere statements. They should show the courage to quit the federal coalition and return to the people’s mandate.”

The exchange marks a significant escalation in tensions between the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Sindh and the MQM-P, which had held the governorship as part of its power-sharing agreement with the PML-N. With Nihal Hashmi set to take the oath as the new Governor, the political landscape in Sindh remains highly charged.
