Gas Load Shedding Crisis Intensifies In Karachi; Citizens Grapple With Unannounced Outages And High LPG Prices

KARACHI (HRNW)- The Sui gas load shedding crisis in the city has taken a severe turn as the administration disconnected gas supplies abruptly and without prior notice, leaving residents in significant distress. According to the newly implemented schedule, gas supply remains suspended from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and throughout the night from 10:00 PM to 5:30 AM. Inhabitants of various areas, including Korangi, Landhi, Garden, and North Nazimabad, reported that children are forced to go to school without breakfast, while gas pressure remains critically low even during scheduled hours.

Compounding the crisis, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)—the primary alternative for domestic use—has skyrocketed. Profiteers are reportedly selling LPG for as much as 515 PKR per kg, significantly higher than the official government rate of 304 PKR per kg. This massive price hike has completely eroded the purchasing power of the lower-income segments of society, making basic cooking fuel unaffordable for many families.

Outraged citizens have demanded that the government take immediate action to ensure an uninterrupted supply of piped gas. Furthermore, they have called for a strict crackdown on profiteering to bring LPG prices back to official rates and provide much-needed relief to the public during this administrative breakdown.
