DOHA (HRNW): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, held a high-level meeting with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The high-powered Pakistani delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the Federal Minister for Information, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi. The visit took place at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to further solidify the strategic and economic partnership between the two brotherly nations.
During the discussions, both leaderships reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, expressing deep satisfaction with the increasing momentum in political, economic, and institutional engagement. To translate this momentum into concrete results, both sides mandated a joint task force to fast-track cooperation in critical sectors including trade, investment, energy, defense, labor mobility, and cultural exchange. They also emphasized the importance of timely implementation of decisions made during the 6th Session of the Pakistan–Qatar Joint Ministerial Commission to ensure a more integrated economic bond.
The meeting also addressed pressing regional and international challenges, with a specific focus on the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the broader security dynamics of the Gulf. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded Qatar’s constructive diplomatic role in promoting dialogue and de-escalation, while both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts in accordance with the United Nations Charter. This visit marks a significant step in elevating the Pakistan-Qatar relationship to a higher strategic level, with a shared resolve to maintain close coordination on global peace and stability.
