Islamabad (HRNW)- On the occasion of World Population Day, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) released a new report urging Pakistan to place its youth at the center of future development and policymaking.
According to the report, Pakistan’s population has reached approximately 257.2 million, with nearly one-third of the population between the ages of 10 and 24. The report noted that 76% of young people remain hopeful about the future, while 53% are concerned about security, economic challenges, and inequality.
The report also highlighted that young people in rural areas, particularly girls, face barriers to achieving their goals due to limited access to the internet and digital services. It called for effective measures to eliminate child marriage and improve opportunities for young people.
Speaking at a press conference, UNFPA Representative Dr. Loya Shabane said that greater investment in education, healthcare, nutrition, and youth development is essential for Pakistan’s stable and prosperous future.
He added that expanding access to international markets and investing in skills development would increase incomes and savings, ultimately improving living standards and economic growth. Dr. Shabane emphasized that education is the foundation of development and prosperity, and that empowering young people to realize their full potential is key to building a brighter future for Pakistan.
