Tamil Nadu Announces Full UG Tuition Fee Support for Eligible Muslim Women

Chennai (HRNW): The government of Tamil Nadu, India, has announced a significant education initiative aimed at expanding access to higher education for Muslim women. Under the scheme, the government will cover the full tuition fees of eligible Muslim female students admitted to undergraduate (UG) programmes through the government quota.

The announcement was made by Tamil Nadu’s Minority Welfare Minister A.M. Shahjahan in the state legislative assembly during discussions on the demands of the Minority Welfare Department.

According to the announcement, the benefit will be available to eligible Muslim female students admitted through the government quota in government, government-aided and self-financing colleges. The scheme covers a range of undergraduate programmes, including arts, science, engineering, medicine, agriculture and law.

The government has initially allocated ₹20 crore for the initiative. Officials said the objective is to reduce financial barriers, encourage Muslim women to pursue higher education and expand opportunities for their educational and economic empowerment.

Tamil Nadu has also announced other measures for minority communities, including scholarships for Muslim female students, a new college for minority women in Chennai and skill-development initiatives for minority youth.
