Myanmar Junta Elections Decried as “Sham” by International Community

NAYPYIDAW (HRNW)— International human rights experts and the UN have called for a total rejection of the military-led elections in Myanmar. Reports indicate that the military-supported USDP has claimed a majority of seats in a process marked by the jailing of opposition figures and a muzzled press. Ongoing conflict has excluded large portions of the population from voting, leading observers to label the process as a junta-orchestrated attempt to legitimize a regime that continues to commit systematic abuses against the Rohingya and other minorities.
