Dera Ismail Khan (HRNW)– The Under-21 wrestling team trials were successfully conducted at Haq Nawaz Park, where more than 50 young wrestlers from across the region showcased their skills in various bodyweight categories. The trials were supervised by Regional Sports Officer Dera, Raziullah Betani, while arrangements were managed by District Wrestling Association President Sanaullah Pehlwan Abhaya and Secretary General Ustad Abdul Ghafoor Pehlwan.
Participants included wrestlers from the registered Wrestling Academy and the historic Desi Kushti centre at Haq Nawaz Park, along with athletes from nearby areas. The young wrestlers displayed impressive strength, technique, and determination throughout the competition.
In the final round, nine wrestlers secured victory in their respective categories, earning trophies after defeating their opponents. These wrestlers will now represent Dera Division in the upcoming Under-21 Youth Games in Peshawar, where strong performances are anticipated.

Senior journalist Muhammad Irfan Mughal and renowned columnist Abu Al-Muzamm Tirabi attended the event as chief guests. They distributed awards among the winners and praised the athletes’ dedication. They emphasized that wrestling is a long-standing cultural heritage of Dera Ismail Khan and that such events play an essential role in guiding youth toward healthy and constructive activities.
National wrestler and wrestling coach Ammar Hussain served as the referee for the trials, ensuring fair judgments and a smooth competition.
The historic government-registered akhara at Haq Nawaz Park, operating under the supervision of Ustad Abdul Ghafoor Pehlwan for more than 42 years, continues to play a pivotal role in promoting Desi Kushti and providing a platform for youth training, physical fitness, and traditional sports development in the region.
