LONDON, United Kingdom (HRNW) Human rights organizations, including Article 19 and Fortify Rights, have formally petitioned the British Prime Minister today to prioritize the “human rights crisis across China” during his upcoming visit to Beijing. The appeal specifically demands the immediate release of British citizen and media mogul Jimmy Lai, who remains in solitary confinement in Hong Kong. The groups highlighted that the ongoing trial of Tiananmen vigil organizers is a “cynical attempt to erase historical memory” and dismantle the last remnants of democracy in the territory.
