International Day of Education: Experts Warn Against Youth “Tokenism”

PARIS (HRNW)— On the International Day of Education (January 24), UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed addressed leaders at UNESCO, calling for a radical shift in how global education is structured. Experts warned that 520 million children are currently caught in conflict zones where learning has effectively ceased. The UN is advocating for youth to be “co-creators” of their curricula rather than passive recipients, specifically highlighting the total loss of in-person education for millions in Gaza, Sudan, and Afghanistan.
