Rights NGOs Ordered to Halt Operations Before Election

Kampala, Uganda (HRNW) — Ugandan authorities have ordered two major human rights groupsChapter Four Uganda and Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-U) — to suspend their operations, just days ahead of the national elections.
Officials cited national security concerns, but activists say the move is a deliberate attempt to silence watchdogs monitoring electoral abuses. International observers warn the clampdown signals a deepening crisis for civil liberties in the country.
