Multan, Pakistan (HRNW)- An audit report has uncovered serious financial and administrative irregularities in several Punjab government departments, including violations of procurement rules and weak monitoring that resulted in losses worth billions of rupees to the public treasury.
According to the report, the Punjab Forensic Science Agency made purchases of laboratory consumables worth over PKR 1.16 billion between FY 2022–2025 without proper pre-qualification of firms, violating the Punjab Procurement Rules 2014. The Department of Home Affairs also conducted purchases exceeding PKR 831 million in violation of transparency and economy principles.
The audit highlighted shortages and mismanagement of weapons, ammunition, and other store items totaling over PKR 245 million, along with irregular fuel issuance for decommissioned and off-road vehicles amounting to PKR 55.8 million. Officials have been advised to ensure accountability, strengthen monitoring, and recover public funds.
The report warns that delayed recovery and poor oversight not only cause financial loss but also pose serious security risks. Multiple audit observations remain pending with the Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC), with recommendations for immediate corrective actions.
