Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Chairs Key Meeting Ahead of NFC Talks Demands Financial Rights

Peshawar (HRNW) An important consultative meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi in preparation for the National Finance Commission (NFC) meeting, in which a comprehensive briefing was given on the financial and constitutional rights of the province.

The Chief Minister was informed in the meeting that the administrative integration of the former FATA has been completed, but the financial integration has not yet been completed. According to the briefing, the NFC award includes Rs 1375 billion from the merged districts since the merger of FATA, which has not been provided by the federation so far.

It was further informed that at the time of FATA merger, the federation had promised to provide Rs 100 billion annually, which has so far amounted to a total of Rs 700 billion. Out of this, the federation released only Rs 168 billion while Rs 531.9 billion is still outstanding.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi clarified that not giving the merged districts their share in the NFC is a clear violation of Article 160 of the Constitution. He said that a strong and effective voice will be raised at every forum to protect the financial and constitutional rights of the province.

The meeting was attended by senior PTI leaders Asad Qaiser, Jind Akbar, Atif Khan, Ali Asghar, Provincial Minister Meena Khan, Advisor on Finance Muzammil Aslam, Chief Secretary and Secretary Finance and other important personalities. The meeting expressed its determination that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will present a strong and clear position of its interests in the upcoming NFC meeting.
